On the cover: Wole Soyinka, in full Akinwande Oluwole Soyinka, is Professor in Residence at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California. An activist in Nigeria’s fight for independence, he was imprisoned in solitary confinement from 1967 to 1969 for writing an article that called for a cease-fire. To this day he is deeply involved in Nigerian politics and the shaping of Nigeria (Federal Republic of Nigeria) as an independent nation.
